Bandai's WonderSwan handheld, engineered by the late Gunpei Yokoi's Koto Laboratory and Bandai's hardware unit, offered low-power battery life, portrait/landscape controls, and later color and crystal revisions; the original monochrome model launched in Japan on March 4 1999, the WonderSwan Color on December 9 2000, and the SwanCrystal on July 12 2002, with distribution focused on the Japanese market.
